Here’s a look into the future with our first build on an electric truck! This swap battery XCMG truck is certainly a bit different and an interesting build for Mills-Tui.

Once we worked through the processes of building a body on an electric truck, it wasn’t all that difficult at all. Making sure we kept all the electrics intact was a big priority and also keeping our staff safe when dealing with a high voltage battery. Once the circuit breakers are removed, the truck is very safe to work on. Computers disconnected in sequence and the vehicle is safe to weld on. The truck is fitted with a Mills-Tui alloy bathtub tipper with a range of safety features to suit the work this truck will do on the Watercare Interceptor project for Ghella. These include auto grain locks, offal locks, body prop, stop brake and taillights, flashing light in tail door sequenced to the roof beacon, reverse camera and bin camera to view when loading, tarp cover and finished off with a PowerTarps – NZ full wet weather electric retractable tarp. The driver can load this truck safely without getting out of the cab. So, here’s a glimpse into the future…it’s not that scary!

Payload is 13,640kg. Cost to fully charge the battery is about $50. It will be on display at the Fieldays. Turns a few heads driving around Rotorua!
